There’s a satisfaction in finishing things. Whether that’s a writing project, an editing job, a blog post, or just the doing the dishes. We all like to finish things.
And, I think, that’s one of the problems when we’re trying to cope with lockdown. We have no sense of when the lockdown may end and so we are never going to be satisfied.
Today, I finished writing a short story. It’s still got to be redrafted, edited and formatted ready for sale but I still feel an immense sense of relief that one part of the task is complete.
Having said that, however, there is, I’m learning, a real sense of joy in the continuation of something. We’ve stuck this out for 44 days, I’ve been writing for 44 days, we’re achieving so much by continuing. If I take something away from this, I hope I am able to continue at tasks for this length of time and still get a pleasure from the continuation.
Who knows, maybe this will strengthen me to start a novel?
In other news, because of a lack of editing jobs at the moment, I’ve been able to get creative! Look out for quotes and editing tips coming your way! Here’s one to get us started.
