We’ve all seen the massive uptake of AI tools, such as ChatGPT, in recent months. Did you know, that writing tools such as Grammarly, also use AI to make their suggestions? Using these tools to help with your writing also means your words are being used to train new AI responces.
How is this ethical? Grammarly, for example, admits that it will use your words to train large language models, potentially stealing your words to give to others! I know I wouldn’t be happy with that and I don’t think you would, either.
I prioritise human expertise and sensitivity in the editing process, particularly when it comes to manuscripts related to LGBTQ+ content. Only a human can keep the integrity and authenticity of each author’s voice while providing exceptional editorial support. Here is my policy regarding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in my editing:
- No AI Editing: I do not use AI algorithms, tools or large language models (LLMs) to edit manuscripts. The editing process relies solely on the expertise of a human who understands the nuances of language and the cultural significance of LGBTQ+ narratives.
- No AI Language Models (LLMs): I do not subject manuscripts to AI Language Models (LLMs) for editing or proofreading purposes. Each manuscript is carefully reviewed and edited personally, ensuring a personalised and tailored approach to every project.
- Commitment to Human-Centered Editing: I believe in the value of human connection and empathy in the editorial process. As an editor, I engage directly with authors to understand their intentions, preferences and unique perspectives, fostering a collaborative environment that respects the authenticity of LGBTQ+ voices.
- Confidentiality and Respect: I guarantee the confidentiality and privacy of clients’ work. By abstaining from AI editing practices, I uphold the trust placed in me by authors to safeguard their creative expressions and personal narratives.
- Continuous Improvement: I am dedicated to staying informed about advancements in AI technology and their potential implications for editorial practices. While recognising the value of AI in certain contexts, I remain committed to a human-centered approach and will only incorporate AI solutions if they align with core principles and enhance the quality of our services without compromising authenticity.
By adhering to this policy, I affirm our commitment to providing exceptional editorial services that celebrate the diversity and complexity of LGBTQ+ narratives while honoring the trust placed in us by our clients.
