LGBTQ+ books

The Queen’s English, by Chloe O. Davis

This excellent book has hundreds, if not thousands, of words and phrases that are used by the whole spectrum of LGBTQ+ people. Beautifully crafted and wonderfully illustrated, it contains usage notes ideal for editorial professionals. Plus, it looks amazing on your desk!

The A-Z of Gender and Sexuality, by Morgan Lev Edward Holleb

Like The Queen’s English, this book contains hundreds of definitions and usage notes, ideal for editing and proofreading LGBTQ+ content. Each definition contains lots of information about the term and its history and usage.

The ABC’s of LGBT+, by Ashley Mardell

Less of a dictionary, unlike the previous two books, this book goes into more information about sexualities and gender identities, with case studies from people with lived experiences. Ideal for highlighting the differences between gender, sex and sexuality.

LGBTQ+ style guides and websites

It came in for a little bit of criticism at first, but a good reference guide.

The organisations excellent guide to using language.

A similar website from a journalistic organisation.
