Our Stories matter.
Queer books matter.
Books, fiction or non-fiction, matter. Through books, we have a way of seeing ourselves reflected, learning about ourselves and our shared history.
Getting it right is so important. You need powerful stories mixed with authentic queer representation. Everyone deserves the right to be authentically represented in literature and that’s why I specialise in editorial support for LGBTQ+ writing.
Growing up in the time of Section 28, I didn’t have access to great queer literature. That’s why, today, I am passionate about getting LGBTQ+ writing right!

As a writer of gay non-fiction, I need an editor who not only has all the skills, but also understands where I’m coming from and I can trust. Nick Taylor delivers on all counts.
David Ledain, Author of How to Tell Your LGBTQ+ Story
It’s always a pleasure working with Nick. He’s fast, thorough, responsive and extremely reliable. And he always seems to catch all sorts of things I’ve missed. Exactly what you want from a copyeditor!
Kate Castle, Author of Born of the Sea and Girl Island
Working with Nicholas has been wonderful. He is always incredibly quick, has great attention to detail and has helped to make our content the best it can be. I would not hesitate to recommend working with him!

What I do
Developmental editing
Adjustments across the entire manuscript that are tailored to supporting your story. This could be any aspect of your story, including plot, narrative or characterisation.
Copyediting
Checking for consistency, clarity, conciseness and correctness. This level of editing is great for when you are happy with your story but want to tighten up your prose and iron out any wrinkles. Copyediting will also deal with spelling, punctuation and grammar issues.
Typesetting and formatting
Whether you are creating a print book, ebook or both, I can use work with you to design beautiful interior pages that draw your reader in.
Proofreading
Ready to print? (Or whatever the ebook equivalent is!) Proofreading is the final check before publishing and ensures that all spelling, punctuation and grammar are correct as well as formatting and page layout elements are right too.
Beta reading
What’s working? What’s not working? How does the story impact the reader? As a trained editor, I can provide detailed and expert feedback on your novel. This can be especially useful for authors not able to afford a full development edit.
LGBTQ+ authenticity reading
Writing about the LGBTQ+ community? Don’t want to offend? I will read your manuscript, or passages from it, to ensure that you avoid upsetting, hurting or damaging the LGBTQ+ community.
Who I work with
Fiction writers
The world needs great stories! You help to explore the world through fiction and your readers want to immerse themselves in the worlds you create. Working together, we can craft extraordinary stories with compelling characters and gripping drama.
Non-fiction writers
As a writer of non-fiction you need to make sure your writing is clear and understood by your readers and you have the facts right too! That’s why good editing of non-fiction is essential and it’s why I am excited to support you to publication.
Businesses and organisations
Business writing needs to be clear and engage your target clients. Working with an experienced editor can enhance your copy and ensure that your message is understood and received well by your customers.
Publishers
Working with your house style, I can support you in creating high-quality books. Get in touch today to find out more!
