Struggling with your writing? Lacking motivation or finding it difficult to keep to your targets? As your accountability partner, I’ll work with you to set realistic goals, keep you on track and get your novel written!
What is writing accountability?
Getting the draft written can be a challenge. Without a deadline to concentrate my mind, I know I struggle to get things written! Accountability is all about finding your focus, working with you to set realistic goals and making sure that you achieve them!
Whether your goals are to write specific word counts each day, or to work on something specific within your novel, having a partner who you are accountable to helps you to get the writing done.
Examples of goals
- Write 1,000 words a day
- Edit a chapter a week
- Finish my novel by December

I worked with Nick as I needed some support with writing the first draft of my book. Nick was my accountability partner and it was great checking in with him regularly, talking about my writing and setting some goals. He is incredibly supportive and helped me get over the line with my draft. I’d highly recommend his services.

What does writing accountability look like?
That depends on your goals! But no matter what you set yourself, accountability is about support, ensuring you reach your writing potential. It could be your space to explain to someone what you’ve been up to, to bounce ideas off someone, to ask questions about writing and the direction your book is going in, anything!

How often you want to meet is up to you. I offer weekly, fortnightly and monthly sessions, over Zoom, WhatsApp or Google Meet. We’ll arrange a suitable time and spend 30 minutes discussing everything you’ve been up to, your targets for the upcoming session and any questions you may have.
Each session costs just £10 and I’m happy to read and review anything you have written in that time.
Why so short?
Let’s keep the focus on writing. If we spend an hour discussing something, are you going to have the energy to then get on and write it?
Why is an accountability partner useful?
This article from the Guardian or this one from the US Career Institute explain the benefits of an accountability partner.
Writing can be a lonely pursuit. You can’t explain your fantasy creations to others in your network, they don’t seem to get it. They won’t get the stresses of closing plot holes, the anxiety of killing off your favourite characters, the worry of imposter syndrome.

After you’ve set your targets, it’s important to stick to them. You may be someone who is strict with yourself but, let’s face it, we all let things slide occasionally. Having someone who you know is your critical friend can be a great stimulus.
Who is accountability for?
You! If you are writing, then an accountability partner is ideal. If you’re not yet writing, an accountability partner will help to get you started!
For newer writers, that could be about maintaining focus. For more experienced authors, that might be about finding new ways of working with someone to get the best results.
Fiction or non-fiction?
Both writers of fiction and non-fiction can benefit from an accountability partner.
