1. “I can depend on him for efficient, thorough and complete craftsmanship, delivered in a timely, professional manner” – Garrick Jones

As a writer, you need someone who you can depend on. You’ve spent hours working on your manuscript and you don’t want just anybody to edit or proofread your words. You want a professional, someone who has been trained and takes ongoing development seriously. Your words, your readers and, most importantly, you deserve someone who can complete the job, be it editing, proofreading or beta reading, well and with professional standards.

2. “I sent in the first chapter of my fantasy novel as part of Nick’s generous free sample edit and I was so impressed!” – Ian Barr

Written your first book? You may not be sure about what goes into editing and proofreading and what it takes to get your book ready for your readers. That’s why I offer free sample edits, so you can see the work I do for you. It’s all well and good showing you on someone else’s manuscript, but it means so much more for you if I can do it to your words!

3. “came up with great what-if questions concerning essential details” – Joelle Circe

Developmental editing is about finding the possibilities for your manuscript. You’ve written the story in one way, but another set of eyes can open you up to ideas that you haven’t conceived. Working with a developmental editor is about getting the most from your ideas, whether that’s expanding on or developing your reader’s knowledge in a non-fiction book, or extending the drama and tension in a fiction book.

4. “During his proofread, he was able to correct small but important mistakes to improve the readability.” – Ashton K. Rose

Proofreading is all about catching the small details. That could be typos and misspelt words, missing punctuation or it could be mistakes in formatting or typesetting of the page. Missing or incorrect page numbers, running heads and contents pages can all easily be overlooked, but hiring a professional proofreader ensures that these details are correct and make your book a great reading experience.

5. “The style and quality of his feedback report surpassed all expectations” – Chris Thompson

Feedback to you needs to allow you to make improvements to your writing. Whether it’s developmental editing, beta reading or authenticity reading, I will produce a bespoke report that allows you to make your book the best it could possibly be. With a copyedit or proofread, I’ll also produce a set of queries and feedback notes that allow you to develop your writing even further.

6. “As a new writer working on my first book, Nick was incredibly patient, teaching me a great deal along the way.” – Patrick Tracy

If you’re a new writer, I understand how daunting it can be to work with a publishing professional. Working with an editor should be about growing and learning as a writer, with each new project teaching you something about your writing style and things to consider for your next manuscript. 7. “picked up on things I wouldn’t have noticed even after several drafts.” – Pete Draper

Another set of eyes is essential. As a writer, it’s all too easy to get too close to your manuscript so you can’t easily spot errors, inconsistencies or unclear passages. That’s why you need someone, ideally an editorial professional, who is able to review your manuscript with fresh eyes, trained to spot and correct issues with your manuscript.

8. “fast, thorough, responsive and extremely reliable” – Kate Castle

If you’ve got a query, whether before, during or after your edit, I’m always happy to discuss your questions! If you’ve got concerns or queries about publishing, you are more than welcome to email me or book in a free video call to talk about your project.
